When the Justice System Is Questioned, Who Holds It Accountable?
Justice must be accountable to the people it serves. No judge, prosecutor, attorney, or government official should be above the law.
The Legal Reform Project was created to expose a troubling question about the American justice system: What happens when the institutions responsible for correcting injustice are themselves accused of wrongdoing?
For decades, I have sought answers concerning my own criminal proceedings in Pennsylvania. During that effort, I obtained police reports, court transcripts, official correspondence, and findings from an independent attorney that raised serious questions about the handling of evidence and the accuracy of statements made in federal court proceedings.
Among those documents is a 2005 letter from attorney William J. Hathaway, who examined the state court file and reported that he could find no evidence of a motion in limine referenced by a federal magistrate judge.
I also raised concerns about a 1987 police report that I contend was withheld from my defense before my criminal proceedings were resolved.
I pursued these matters through the judicial system, ultimately seeking review by the United States Supreme Court. My petition was denied without an explanation of the underlying allegations.
This website is not asking the public to accept my conclusions without question. It is asking the public to examine the documents, consider the discrepancies, and demand meaningful accountability.
I believe the greatest danger to justice arises when allegations of official misconduct cannot receive a fair, independent examination.
The Legal Reform Project stands for a simple principle:
The justice system must be willing to examine its own mistakes and investigate credible allegations of misconduct, regardless of who is involved or how powerful they may be.
Justice should never depend on political connections, professional relationships, or the willingness of institutions to protect their reputations.
The evidence deserves examination. The questions deserve answers. And the American people deserve a justice system worthy of their trust.
